3Good size, comfortable, but rowing is horrible & questionable durability  Aug 29, 2010
I debated long and hard between getting the Excursion 5 and the Seahawk II. I wanted a boat that I could immediately take out and go rowing, but one that is durable (sometimes there are branches sticking up in the shallow river here) and comfortable. I also wanted to get a boat that I could eventually mount a motor on in the future.

After reading tons of reviews -- and going to the Intex website and other forums -- I bought the Excursion 5 because some forums said the Seahawk II doesn't have motor mount points (this is not true) and some people on here commented that the Excursion 5 is made out of the same "Super-Tough" material as the Seahawk II (this is also not true, but it's very confusing and even the Intex website doesn't make it clear. The Seahawk II is more rigid, can be inflated to higher pressure, and is more puncture-resistant because it is actually a 3-ply system including Super-Tough PVC OVER a nylon fabric layer)

As soon as the Excursion 5 arrived, I realized I had bought the wrong boat for rowing my girlfriend and I around. The boat is too wide and oars too short to really reach into the water well, and the oar locks are fixed in place -- not rotational like the Seahawk II. These two factors make the boat nearly impossible to row.

I immediately ordered the Seahawk II and have taken it out and it is great to row around in (comfy for 2 people, I don't see how you could fit 3.) I thought about what to do with the Excursion 5, and I've decided to keep it because it is a bigger boat and seems like it could be fun to take a larger group (up to 4) people out on it, once I get a motor and mount.

So I want to set the record straight if you are debating between these boats like I was:
1) The Seahawk II is more rigid and durable than any other Intex boats except the Mariner. The Excursion 5 vinyl is nice and thick, but it's still soft and I am still concerned it could rupture if I hit a branch or rock the wrong way.
2) Many of the Intex boats have motor mount setup, including the Seahawk II -- the Excursion 5 can only support up to 1.5 hp because it is not as rigid (the Seahawk II is rated up to 2 hp and Mariner up to 3 hp)
3) The Excursion 5 is a bit bigger, so if you need to fit 3 or more people, it might be the boat for you.
4) Don't expect to go rowing in the Excursion 5. Get a narrower boat, preferably with rotational/swivel oar locks. Maybe if you had 4 people paddling (with an extra set of oars) the Excursion might work okay.

5Love It!  Aug 28, 2010
I got the raft in just a few day and went right down the Delaware River. I was really impressed with the space and it really can fit 5 people. The raft is sturdy and inflates quickly.

3Wrong Oars  Aug 27, 2010
Boat itself was fine, and we used it up in the lakes of South Dakota for fishing. What made me a bit mad was that the oars did not fit as they should. The mounting brackets on boat were too small for oars included. SO IT WAS A PAIN IN THE BUTT AT TIMES to get around. Boat is heavy, we bought an electric pump on advice of another buyer, and we were so very glad we did. Overall, it is a nice boat, no holes on this trip whatsoever. I would buy again, but before I left for trip I wish I had the time to call and ask for my oars to be replaced.

5Excellent Value Highly recommended  Aug 16, 2010
Easily inflatable and deflatable with the Boston valves, just as the intex website describes. The supplied pump is very powerful and inflates in both the upward and downward motion. I would recommend getting an AC air pump, but the supplied pump does a very good job. The scale on the boat and a small plastic strip with a scale tells you exactly how much to inflate the boat, which is very useful. The boat did seem to expand in the hot sun, so the marker on the boat may not be accurate if it has been under the hot sun for too long.

Very Spacious. At one point we had five people (comfortably seated), a 12v marine battery attached to a minn kota 30lb trolling motor and a pug in the boat and the boat had no problems navigating a large lake. You can have three people comfortably lie down and relax in the boat, or have two people and all the camping gear you can possibly imagine fit comfortably.

The material is very thick and looks pretty sturdy. The downside is that it is very heavy.

Used it in a large lake (Harrison lake, British Columbia, Canada) with and without wind and the boat navigated the lake with no problems.

Absolutely recommended for any size lake. I cannot comment on its use on rapids or in the ocean, but wouldn't hesitate to try it out as it is built pretty solidly. I would also recommend getting the intex motor mount and a minn kota 30lb motor to go with the boat.

5Great Fishing Boat  Aug 16, 2010
We purchased this boat to go fishing with our family. Their is my Wife and I, and our 4 kids all under 8 years of age. It worked out great. Not a whole lot of room with that many kids, but it worked great. And is made of a very sturdy material. We haven't got a hole in it yet. But I think that 5 adults would be very cramped. If it was all adults on the boat I think 4 would be max. We are very happy with our boat. I can inflate it with an electric pump on the main cambers of the boat and the hand pump for the seats in about 15 minutes. That is getting it out of the bag and everything.
