Mine didn't hold up Sep 01, 2010 Price is great for what you get, used it six times, had fun fishing out of it. Then one of the seats leaked air. I couldn't find the leak, but those old foam steps for aerobics work great as a substitute. I also called Intex and they told me tough luck on getting a new seat, no warranty. The next time I used the boat, it looked like it might have lost some air in one chamber, the next time I used it, there was no doubt. I couldn't find the leak and boat was less than two months old so I returned it. $100 is a good price but not if it won't even last one season. I decided to buy a broad beam canoe instead. 4.5 X as much money plus I had to buy a canoe loader for $75, but it should last longer and I don't have to worry about it collapsing on me in a middle of a lake from all the air coming out.
Great little boat -- rugged and portable and easy to row Aug 29, 2010 I debated long and hard between getting the Excursion 5 and the Seahawk II. I wanted a boat that I could immediately take out and go rowing, but one that is durable (sometimes there are branches sticking up in the shallow river here) and comfortable. I also wanted to get a boat that I could eventually mount a motor on in the future.
After reading tons of reviews -- and going to the Intex website and other forums -- I bought the Excursion 5 because some forums said the Seahawk II doesn't have motor mount points (this is not true -- it would be nice if Amazon's site would specify this) and some people on here commented that the Excursion 5 is made out of the same "Super-Tough" material as the Seahawk II (this is also not true, but it's very confusing and even the Intex website doesn't make it clear. The Seahawk II is more rigid, can be inflated to higher pressure, and is more puncture-resistant because it is actually a 3-ply system including Super-Tough PVC OVER a nylon fabric layer -- neither Amazon nor Intex website make this clear. I found out through the Cabela's website)
As soon as the Excursion 5 arrived, I realized I had bought the wrong boat for rowing my girlfriend and I around. The boat is too wide and oars too short to really reach into the water well, and the oar locks are fixed in place -- not rotational like the Seahawk II. These two factors make the boat nearly impossible to row.
I immediately ordered the Seahawk II and have taken it out and it is great to row around in (comfy for 2 people, I don't see how you could fit 3.) I thought about what to do with the Excursion 5, and I've decided to keep it because it is a bigger boat and seems like it could be fun to take a larger group (up to 4) people out on it, once I get a motor and mount.
So I want to set the record straight if you are debating between these boats like I was:
1) The Seahawk II is more rigid and durable than any other Intex boats except the Mariner. The Excursion 5 vinyl is nice and thick, but it's still soft and I am still concerned it could rupture if I hit a branch or rock the wrong way.
2) Many of the Intex boats have motor mount setup, including the Seahawk II -- the Excursion 5 can only support up to 1.5 hp because it is not as rigid (the Seahawk II is rated up to 2 hp and Mariner up to 3 hp)
3) The Excursion 5 is a bit bigger, so if you need to fit 3 or more people, it might be the boat for you.
4) Don't expect to go rowing in the Excursion 5. Get a narrower boat, preferably with rotational/swivel oar locks. Maybe if you had 4 people paddling (with an extra set of oars) the Excursion might work okay.
exceeded expectations Aug 29, 2010 Took it out on the pond the day i got it, worked great, caught fish all night. boat is made with a nice rugged material, very sturdy. The gear pouches aren't worth much but over all its definitely worth the money.
Intex Seahawk II Boat Set Aug 27, 2010 Good product although we had a factory defect. One of the seperations in the floor had buldged and the seller replaced the raft promply. The oar set worked for a while but soon the plastic connectors broke and cracked. Finally I was given the website to purchase more connectors. They were fairly cheap in price but awaiting shipment. All in all the item worked well for the price and for just lake hopping, it served our purpase well. The air pump worked well for what it is.
SeaHawk is a fantastic boat - at a great price Aug 24, 2010 Out of the box: After opening this boat I noticed that it does weigh quite a bit, but when I examined the PVC material that it's made of I was surprised to note its durability.
I decided to use a tarp to place my raft to inflate and deflate it so I wouldn't puncture the boat on land during this process. A small investment to keep your boat puncture free.
The included pump worked well for inflating the boat. I placed the boat in the water and put the oars on, and then I proceeded to row the boat by myself for 5 miles (3 hours) and it performed well in the lake. The oars stayed in 1 piece just fine, but I put them together properly which some people that broke them might have not. The one thing that I am worried about for the future are the plastic oar locks. I can see them breaking in the future but I will just keep rowing until they do.
Overall, I cannot believe the cost of this boat because it's a very good bargain considering that it comes with the oars AND the high quality air pump.
If you buy this boat you won't be sorry! If you have any questions please ask and I will be happy to answer them.
